Club Bentota is built on a peninsula referred to as “Paradise Island” and is between the Indian Ocean and the Bentota River. The names ‘Bentota’ comes from a mythical story which claims that a demon named ‘Bem’ ruled the ‘tota’ (river bank). Bentota is situated on the southern coastal tip of the Galle District and is famous for its golden beaches. The town is a popular tourist attraction and is a great destination for water sports. The city’s population is estimated to be between 25,000 and 50,000 and the residents of Bentota are extremely friendly.
